What is music therapy?

Music Therapy is the clinical & evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program. (AMTA)

Music Therapists engage their clients in a variety of music experiences including singing, song writing, playing instruments, and music listening to address a range of healthcare and education goals. Goals may include Promoting Wellness, Managing Stress, Alleviating Pain, Expressing Feelings, Enhancing Memory, Improving Communication, Promoting Physical Rehabilitation, and Supporting Social Emotional Skills.

Located in the Heart of the Farmington Valley, Emily Bevelaqua Music Therapy Services works with clients at our Collinsville office, and throughout Hartford, Litchfield, and New Haven Counties.

Emily Bevelaqua

Founder and Director 

Emily Bevelaqua, MMT, MT-BC is a Board Certified Music Therapist, licensed by the State of Connecticut.  Equipped with almost 2 decades of experience, Emily has worked with thousands of clients and has developed countless school, agency, and community based music therapy programs throughout the state.  As a classically trained vocalist, multi instrumentalist, and singer songwriter, she is passionate about utilizing person centered music experiences to enrich the lives of her clients. Emily specializes in working with clients with intellectual and physical disabilities across the life span, older adults with Alzheimer’s and dementia, as well as children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and adolescents with co-occurring mental health needs. Emily received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music from the University of Hartford’s Hartt School of Music, a Music Therapy Equivalency from Anna Maria College, and her Master in Music Therapy from Temple University.  In addition to her clinical work, Emily serves on the Faculty at Southern Connecticut State University’s Music Therapy Program.
